NMSU Global MA

The department offers an online M.A. in Communication Studies in which students can choose a concentration in Leadership Communication or Analysis and Decision-Making. The concentration in Leadership Communication is designed to promote effective leadership skills in individual, group, team, and organizational contexts for professionals who work in organizations of any type (private, government, non-profit). The concentration in Analysis and Decision-Making is designed to enhance professional skillsets in a time of dynamic change in global business, diversity, technology, and digital skills. Courses are offered in an 8-week, online asynchronous format.

Online M.A. in Communication Studies: Concentration in Leadership Communication

The Leadership Communication concentration requires 36 credits, 18 of which must be in Communication Studies, ending in a project option (COMM 5994). All courses are asynchronous and delivered online through the NMSU’s Learning Management System, Canvas.

Graduate students in the Leadership Concentration are required to take:

  • COMM 5530: Leadership Communication
  • COMM 5550: Case Studies in Leadership Communication
  • COMM 5510: Organizational Communication
  • COMM 5560: Ethics & Diversity in Leadership Communication
  • COMM 5994: 6 project hours in last semester of enrollment.
    • Students are required to take an additional 18 hours of electives in Communication or any other discipline.

This degree requires a minimum of 18 credits of Communication Studies courses, and 36 credits total.

  • AXED 5320: Risk and Crisis Communication in Agricultural, Consumer, & Environmental Sciences
  • IE 537: Large-Scale Systems Engineering
  • IE 563: Topics in Engineering Administration
  • COMM 5994: 6 project hours in last semester of enrollment
  • Students are required to take 18 credits of COMM courses in addition to required courses listed above.
